Profile: As Chief People Officer, Jeff Perkins leads NPR’s efforts to create conditions where employees worldwide are working effectively toward NPR’s mission of creating a more informed public. His role is to partner with the CEO, leadership team, and Board of Directors to set corporate goals for NPR and drive employee programs and initiatives that align with NPR’s core mission and values. Since joining NPR, Jeff has led the transformation of the human resources team from a more transactional approach to a business partner model that collaborates strategically with the organization and delivers progressive results. He has helped hire many of NPR’s top executives and developed and implemented a new talent management strategy. Prior to NPR, Jeff worked at Huntbridge, Inc., a human resources consulting firm he founded, specializing in executive search, organizational development and strategic planning. He served as Senior Vice President of Human Resources at Fox Interactive Media, a division of News Corporation. At Fox, Jeff led the hiring of over 1,000 employees in 26 countries for 11 businesses, reorganized work groups, and updated human resources systems. Prior to Fox, he held several increasingly responsible positions at Time Warner, including Senior Vice President of Human Resources.

At the Nonprofit HR Conference, Jeff will talk about how as NPR evolved over four successful decades, many of its HR practices and approaches remained the same. This led to a ‘personnel-style’ support model, with many outdated and reactive tools, procedures and policies. Then NPR transformed the HR team and approach, from a reactive, transactional model to a proactive, strategic partner that has propelled the organization into the modern and digital age. This was achieved by implementing an HR Business Partner model, implementing new HR technologies, and shifting the mindset of the HR organization. Join Jeff as he proves how nonprofit HR professionals can lead transformative change in an established organization as well as practical steps in restructuring HR from an administrative function to a strategic business partner.
