With five generations present in today’s workforce, embracing an open feedback culture is critical to ensuring staff are motivated, engaged and growing, and that organizational policies and practices are reflective of staff needs. An open feedback culture invites and creates space for leaders and team members to express concerns and spotlight issues that might be interfering with their individual and collective performance. And when created with intention, it takes into account the different dimensions of diversity and lived experiences of employees. Though many organizations have incorporated open feedback as a staple in their EDIJ efforts, 65% of employees say they want more feedback and only 28% believe they receive meaningful feedback weekly.
So how do organizations get there? And what can HR leaders do to support its success? Join us as we tackle the common mistakes organizations make in creating and implementing open feedback culture and what they can do to ensure all staff feels comfortable and willing to provide horizontal and lateral feedback.
As a participant in this session, you will:
- Learn the nuances of what open feedback is and isn’t and the common pitfalls that happen with an open feedback culture
- Be able to assess your own organization’s current feedback culture to determine strengths and areas of improvement
- Discuss how identity and implicit bias can affect staff’s ability to participate in an open feedback culture
- Identify your role and the role of leadership in ensuring the success of your open feedback culture

What sets the effective nonprofit leaders apart from the rest? We have the answers.
We connected with high-performing nonprofit leaders from organizations like the National 4-H Council and the YWCA and asked them what makes them tick. Each leader had unique insights into key habits that help them lead effectively, which we synergized into four key themes.
The most effective leaders:
- Place a high value on education
- Empower others
- Embrace Change
- Leverage their networks
These are habits you can cultivate in yourself and in your most promising nonprofit employees.
