Robert W. Simmons III, EdD, began his career as a middle school STEM teacher in the Detroit Public Schools Community District. As a former teacher, school administrator, school district senior leader and tenured professor of urban education at Loyola University Maryland, Robert currently serves as a scholar in residence and scholar of anti-racist praxis in the School of Education at American University and cohost of the highly acclaimed podcast 3XDope. 

Dr. Simmons has been the CEO and President of two nonprofits that focus on community engagement and center anti-racism in their practices. Robert has consulted with nonprofits and K-12 school systems on earned income strategies and antiracism, as well as the development of DEI policies, practices and strategies.

Dr. Simmons’ work has been published in several national peer-reviewed journals including Urban Education; Journal of Urban Learning, Teaching and Research; Journal of African American Males in Urban Education; and the International Journal of Critical Pedagogy.

Robert is currently a member of the Diversity Scholars Network at the National Center for Institutional Diversity (University of Michigan) and a board member with Latinx Education Collaborative.
