Last Year’s Impact: 2017 by the Numbers and a Look Ahead at 2018

By Nonprofit HR
In January 3, 2018

2017 was a hard year for many individuals and organizations, but the social sector and its talent provided a light in the darkness. Nonprofits and other social impact organizations all across the country stepped up in a big way to serve their communities and take a stand in major social and cultural movements.

As we begin 2018, we’d like to take a look back at the clients we served across sub-sectors in 2017 and celebrate their impact and that of our exceptional, hardworking team.

HR Consulting Impact

In 2017, we served 293 organizations with our consulting services.

In every single HR consulting practice area––from Project-Based Consulting to On-site HR Outsourcing and Virtual HR Outsourcing––our leaders and team members are knowledgeable, experienced and passionate about helping nonprofits find solutions that improve their people practices and overall operations.

Highlights from within HR Consulting include…

clients served through project-based consulting
clients served through HR outsourcing

Reflections from our practice leaders:

“I’ve seen first-hand how strong talent strategies and effective implementations enable organizations to maximize their impact. Having a broad, macro-level impact on the clients I support – and the nonprofit sector as a whole – motivates me daily to work to the best of my ability.”

Sidney Abrams, SPHR, SHRM-SCP, sHRBP, Managing Director, HR Consulting ServicesNonprofit HR

Over the course of my tenure at Nonprofit HR, I have found that we make significant impact at small organizations where the Executive Director is not only responsible for the leadership function but also handling strategic and tactical human capital.

I truly enjoy and look forward to the partnerships we forge with nonprofit leaders to ensure that their human capital function is strong, robust, and provides great value to their people and the important work that they undertake.

“It’s rewarding to partner with an organization to assess and recognize the impact of its culture, but it’s exciting to take the next step and help the organization drive culture shifts that ignite innovation, spark productivity, and improve retention. When an organization can pivot successfully, it is unstoppable!”

Talent Acquisition Impact

One belief is at the core of everything we do: high-performing talent is the key to the advancement of every nonprofit’s mission. This belief guides our talent acquisition practice, and last year, we were able to connect more organizations than ever with the passionate and driven talent they needed to drive impact.

Whether our client organizations sought direct hires or contingent talent, our team was able to find the perfect fit for nonprofits like the League of Women Voters, Human Rights Campaign and the American Psychiatric Association.

In 2017…

hours
of work were done by our temp staff at nonprofit organizations (that's almost 5000 working days)
direct hire staff members were placed at nonprofits by Nonprofit HR
contingent placements were converted to full-time employees with nonprofit organizations

Reflections from our practice leader:

``Within Talent Acquisition, one of the ways we impact our clients’ missions is by placing candidates with the right cultural fit for that organization. We take into consideration not only the candidate’s skills, but their passion as it relates to that organization’s particular mission.”

Yvonne Rivera, CSP, Director of Talent AcquisitionNonprofit HR

Executive Search Impact

We take tremendous pride in matching talented, driven and passionate leaders with organizations where they’ll provide valuable insight and drive growth. We also know nonprofit leaders have a unique opportunity to define an organization’s success for years to come. That’s why every single one of our executive placements is done with great care and consideration.

In 2017, we placed leaders at nonprofit organizations across the country, including…

Reflections from our practice leader:

“Whenever I sit with a board of directors and guide them through the process of shaping the profile of their next leader, I always point them back to the mission and the values of the organization. I beam with pride when we've identified the perfect candidate to shape the impact of these great organizations. I can't help but to think of the people and causes held up by the nonprofit community of professionals. We all know that the chief executive of the organization drives culture and culture drives success. My work is made worthwhile knowing that I play such an important part in the process.”

Knowledge Impact

At Nonprofit HR, we’re not just committed to providing strategic and tactical services. We’re also committed to gathering data and developing resources to help nonprofit leaders and human resources professionals educate themselves and inform their talent strategies. We pushed this commitment further than ever in 2017 with blogs, downloadable resources, survey data and events.

For example, last year:

+
nonprofit organizations participated in our surveys on nonprofit employment and talent management
+
nonprofit leaders attended our educational events, including the Nonprofit Talent & Culture Summit, Interact for Impact and our webinar series
+
nonprofit professionals consumed content through our blog and resource library

Reflections from our practice leader:

“I know that my contributions are helping nonprofits achieve their remarkable missions. I recently spoke with someone who noted the lack of data on talent in the nonprofit sector and how appreciative she was that we provide this. I think relevant data is essential to decision-making for nonprofit talent leaders.”

Looking Ahead at 2018

We’re excited about impending changes to our own organization to help us better serve the nonprofit sector this year, and we’ll be announcing some of those changes very soon. We’ll also continue to generate critical data, insights and educational resources on talent and culture for nonprofits all sizes, budgets and missions. If there is a topic you’re especially interested in learning about, please let us know.

We hope to serve even more organizations and amplify the impact of the entire nonprofit sector in 2018. If you feel an organization you know could benefit from our services, we’d love an introduction.

We welcome your feedback and suggestions about how we can best serve you this year.
