Chief Executive Officer
The Association of Women’s Business Centers (AWBC) is the leading national voice and resource for igniting the economic power of women’s entrepreneurship by supporting and sustaining a national network of Women’s Business Centers (WBCs) across the nation. The AWBC is a private, non-profit membership and advocacy organization, located in the Washington, DC metro area. AWBC serves over 110 WBCs nationwide which help women succeed in business by providing training, mentoring, business development and financing opportunities to more than 145,000 women entrepreneurs annually.
AWBC has exclusively retained Nonprofit HR to assist in the recruitment efforts for its next Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The position of CEO is a critical and visible position requiring strong business (financial, operations) and development experience. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the CEO provides inspiring leadership to support and achieve the Mission and Vision within the boundaries, prudence and principles established by the Board. As the primary spokesperson for AWBC, the CEO will promote and enhance AWBC’s visibility and influence.
The CEO is responsible for developing, implementing and promoting AWBC’s Strategic Plan and for effectively managing the AWBC’s operations and growth. The CEO will manage, maintain, allocate, and develop AWBC’s human and financial resources. S/he is responsible for maintaining a positive public image and productive working relationships with all stakeholders including funders, government officials and members.
The CEO will oversee development and programs – leading the charge in establishing new private and public resources to support sustainable programs and activities that support the organization’s mission. The CEO must be able to skillfully navigate the organization as it grows and establish the organization as a national leader and partner in building capacity for AWBC’s membership.
The CEO must have broad management experience in a non-profit, government or business setting, including program and project development, implementation, and evaluation; short- and long-term strategic planning; and budgetary oversight. The CEO must have exceptional leadership presence and experience serving as a spokesperson for an organization, with demonstrated ability to increase and leverage organizational visibility, credibility and brand recognition through the media and other public relations sources. The CEO must have proven fundraising experience to secure public and private contributions for AWBC and be able to lead, execute and facilitate resource development initiatives and programs that establish fundraising partners.
The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in one of the following disciplines: i.e. Business Management, Organizational Development, or related field, and a minimum of 10 years of management experience of which at least five years should include experience successfully managing a nonprofit organization at a strategic and leadership level or leading a business that has demonstrated growth and profitability. The CEO must also have passion for our Mission, Vision, and work. The CEO must have experience creating and maintaining an organizational culture that attracts, motivates, and retains a diverse, talented staff to blend skill sets, meet objectives, and provide efficient program execution. The ideal candidate has experience managing a national organization and has proven success developing and keeping a remote workforce engaged.
