ABOUT NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SOCIAL WORKERS

Founded in 1955, the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is the largest membership organization of professional social workers in the world, with more than 107,000 members. NASW works to enhance the professional growth and development of its members, to create and maintain professional standards, and to advance sound social policies.

At NASW our members come from all walks of life and so do we. We hire great people from a wide variety of backgrounds because it makes our organization stronger. If you share our values and are enthusiastic you will find a home here.

OUR VISION

The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is a membership organization that works to enhance the professional growth and development of our members, to create and maintain professional standards for social workers, and to advance sound social policies. Our purpose:

  • To promote the quality and effectiveness of social work practice in the United States.
  • To improve conditions of life in our democratic society using social work knowledge and skills.
  • To help maintain and promote high standards for social work practice and preparation for practice.

ABOUT THE CEO ROLE

NASW is seeking a dynamic Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to build on and preserve our mission of being a national resource, partner, and advocate for social work internationally and nationwide. This leader should have experience and a desire to implement this mission through an equity lens alongside a personal history of deep commitment to the social work profession.  To ensure we continue to provide inclusive and sustainable opportunities to the people within our community, NASW has exclusively retained Nonprofit HR to conduct a recruitment campaign for our next CEO.

The position requires big-picture vision, charisma, emotional intelligence, and strong financial, operational, and development experience. The Board of Directors and the CEO’s top priority is to create social change that leads to better lives and healthier communities. Reporting directly to the Board President and NASW Board of Directors, managing an operating budget of more than 50 million and a staff of 205 across 50 states, 2 cities and 3 US territories. The CEO will lead NASW to continue to be relevant, initiative-taking, and a leader in social work and the broader community. The CEO is the most visible ambassador representing the Association nationally and internationally; advocating for vital services for the most vulnerable; building pivotal relationships with key stakeholders; providing effective leadership committed to advancing the profession of social work available in the country. This position will build upon NASW’s significant record of accomplishments, sound fiscal management, and high-quality programs, expanding its reach, effectiveness, and impact.
