WTOP: 5 ways nonprofits can…
Zion Church is a movement helping people EXPERIENCE God, ENGAGE in the community, be EQUIPPED for ministry, and EMPOWERED to serve across various locations and technologies. A Christian, non-denominational, “seeker-sensitive” church that intentionally embraces an all-are-welcome and nontraditional culture, Zion Church helps people become committed followers of Jesus Christ by serving the needs of its members, attenders, and communities through local, national, and international outreach and missions. Since its first gathering in 2000, under the leadership of its Senior Pastor, Zion Global has grown to over 5,000 members, four physical campus locations throughout the Washington DC metropolitan area (Fort Washington, Greenbelt, and Landover MD, and Woodbridge, VA), and a dynamic virtual campus where thousands of online attenders meet weekly (Zion Anywhere).
As it continues to experience significant growth and build upon its strengths, Zion Church has exclusively retained Nonprofit HR to assist in its search for an experienced and visionary Chief Ministry Officer (CMO). The CMO is responsible and accountable for the people and processes connected to the Ecclesiastical arm of Zion Church. This leader will provide oversight for ministry programs under the direction of ordained clergy and departmental directors to ensure they are meeting their spiritual and practical objectives. The CMO reports directly to the Senior Pastor (CEO) and is a member of the executive team.
The CMO is committed to Christian principles, oversees and approves programs designed to address the spiritual and practical needs of Zion Church’s members and attenders, and monitors and drives performance around Zion’s 7 vital signs and 5 critical standards to ensure overall sustainable health of the church. Directly supervising campus Lead Pastors and ministry directors, this leader will be the primary liaison between the Senior Pastor and the ministerial team and will streamline and filter communications, objectives and directives required for effective ministry. The CMO will work closely with the Chief Operating Officer, building collaborative relationships with department heads to ensure cohesiveness between the Ecclesiastical and Operations divisions. In addition to the day-to-day ministerial needs of Zion Church, the CMO is responsible for large-scale projects including construction buildouts and church-wide events, in partnership with the Chief Operating Officer. The CMO will also be tasked with preaching and teaching as requested by the Senior Pastor and Campus Pastors.
