Indiana Black Expo, Inc. (IBE) has enjoyed 50 years of proud service to Indiana’s African American community aligned with its mission, “to be an effective voice and vehicle for the social and economic advancement of African Americans.” IBE’s long-standing tradition of community service is reinforced by its commitment to be relevant in the communities it serves and well-positioned in its capability and capacity to advance Indiana’s African American community agenda. IBE seeks to empower its community members’ ability to achieve well-being, lead thriving, self-determined lives and to join the economic mainstream.

IBE’s statewide presence comes to life through: its community engagement and convening strategies and initiatives; collaborative service delivery partnerships; broad and trusted mission-aligned stakeholder relationships; its engagement with statewide community-building alliances, coalitions and networks advocating for social change; and through enabling resources from twelve Chapter Affiliates operating as nonprofit 501 (c)(3) organizations in the cities of Anderson, Indianapolis, Evansville, Muncie, Kokomo, Lafayette, Elkhart, South Bend, East Chicago, Gary, Michigan City, and Fort Wayne. IBE engages more than 400,000 African-Americans annually, convening thousands of experts and stakeholders on a variety of social or economic issues impacting Indiana’s African-American community.

While these achievements are worthy of recognition and celebration, IBE’s Board of Directors, its leadership, its partners and stakeholders recognize the ongoing and ever-present disparities related to the availability of and access to much needed human services and resources that help to advance the well-being of African American community members, especially those farthest out on the margins of society.

Accordingly, IBE’s ability to continue the achievement of breakthrough results for the people who are recipients of its services will depend heavily on its preparation to anticipate and embrace both today’s and tomorrow’s social, political and cultural challenges in the African American community in non-traditional ways. It calls the organization to re-think where and how its services are delivered and it challenges leadership to explore new community partnerships and collaborative engagement models that effectively address the present and future needs of the community.

IBE is committed to ensuring its short and long-term stability and to be well-positioned to effectively respond to the aforementioned community challenges. In that regard, IBE seeks to augment its leadership team with reinforced strategic fund development capability and capacity and has exclusively retained Nonprofit HR to assist in the recruitment of a Vice President, Chief Fund Development Officer at its Indianapolis, Indiana headquarters.

IBE Chief Fund Development Officer – Role Summary

Reporting to the IBE Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Chief Fund Development Officer serves as a key leadership team member and an active participant in informing and contributing to the strategic decisions affecting Indiana Black Expo. In partnership with the IBE CEO, this position is responsible for all fundraising and development activities. In summary, the incumbent will:

  • Reinforces IBE’s operational capacity through sustainable funding.
  • Strategically expands IBE’s fundraising scope beyond traditional local resources to include potential regional and/or National funding partnerships.
  • Help forge new relationships to build IBE visibility, impact and financial resources.
  • Design and implement a comprehensive plan for developing key external alliances by cultivating, soliciting and stewarding philanthropic support from individuals, corporations and foundations.
  • Have primary responsibility for establishing and implementing the infrastructure needed to grow IBE’s budget through major gifts, grants, special events, corporate and foundation support.
  • Expand and diversify IBE’s donor base/pipeline and work closely with other team members to secure funding for new initiatives.
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors and support board members as they take on a more active fundraising role.
