Nonprofit HR on behalf of PICO National Network is conducting a search for their next Digital Manager.
PICO National Network is the largest grassroots faith-based organizing network in the United States. For 40 years PICO has brought people of faith together to advance racial and economic justice. Through a network of 60 faith-based organizations and 1,200 religious congregations, PICO provides an opportunity for thousands of volunteer leaders to stand up and be heard on the public and corporate decisions that most directly shape their lives.
PICO organizations have successfully changed public policies at the local, state and federal level that have helped families obtain affordable health coverage for themselves and their children, access quality education, protect their homes from foreclosure and secure good jobs. Through an innovative campaign infrastructure that ties together grassroots people-led organizing in more than 200 cities and towns and 18 states with large-scale efforts to change federal policy, PICO is currently leading campaigns to help protect undocumented communities, address gun violence and mass incarceration and access quality health care.
Position Overview
PICO National Network’s digital manager will support nationwide organizing through the strategic amplification of grassroots voices and timely calls to collective action across all digital platforms, and the development of printed collateral. The ideal candidate will have experience working on racial and social justice campaigns.
The digital Manager reports to the managing director for communications. The candidate will work closely with federation directors, organizers and communicators.
Key Responsibilities
Digital Messaging & Communications
- Work closely with PICO’s managing director for communications, communications team and lead organizers to ensure effective representation and integration of messaging and PICO achievements in all digital spaces
- Amplify PICO’s press coverage and campaign activity through timely and coordinated representation on the website and social media channels
- Analyze email, social media and web performance reports to ensure benchmarks are hit and impacts are maximized
- Assist with oversight of social media, ensuring messaging alignment, quality and adherence to social media best practices
- Train, coach and support network staff and volunteers in online strategy and skills
- Track the growth of various social media platforms and produce metrics to evaluate progress
- Develop bi-monthly email campaigns highlighting different aspects of PICO’s work
Digital Organizing
- Update PICO national website each week
- Ensure regular posts for social media accounts including Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn
- Develop digital organizing strategy in coordination with state and national policy campaigns, managing Manager of communications and departmental leadership – including email calendar, building PICO’s list, and mobilizing individuals to action through careful message testing and the strategic use of asks
- Manage outward-facing email calendar and, in coordination with campaigns and departmental leadership, prioritize competing interests to ensure email communications adhere to overall strategy
- Train departmental staff on digital organizing and email-writing best practices – managing the process for drafting, approving and sending all outward-facing emails
- Develop social media plans to support organizing efforts
- Work with text program contract staff to integrate text messaging into organizing efforts
- Develop relationships with partners across the movement
- Manage network and national campaign email strategy, calendar and workflow
- Manage email production, writing and launching
Organizing Support
- Develop needed visual printed collateral, digital assets, multimedia and video pieces in conjunction with managing director for communications, communications team, campaign leads, departmental leadership and federation point people
- With the oversight of the managing director of communications, conceptualize and manage photo, video, multimedia and print projects, production and contractors
- Build federation capacity for photo, video and creative through the provision customizable assets, collaboration and specific skill-based
- Expand PICO’s narrative reach and influence by building relationship with photographers, videographers, storytellers, producers, donors and creatives – both inside and outside of traditional organizing partners
Online Fundraising
- Work with Development team to plan and execute at least 4 multi-channel fundraising campaigns annually with clear goals and systems for reporting – Giving Tuesday, end of year, and key opportunities tied to current events or campaigns
- Advise Development team on digital best practices and support the implementation of email, social media and text messaging
