WTOP: 5 ways nonprofits can…
ABOUT US
Emancipet is a nonprofit on a mission to make veterinary care affordable and accessible to all pet owners. We believe the love between people and pets is powerful, and worth protecting, so we make it easy and affordable for people to take care of their beloved pets, regardless of how much they make or where they live. We manage an expanding national network of high-quality, low-cost clinics; offer customized training and consulting programs to animal welfare organizations nationwide; and advocate for strategies and public policy that improve the lives of pets in underserved communities. Since 1999, Emancipet has spayed or neutered more than 400,000 dogs and cats and in 2020 we cared for more than 200,000 pets. Currently we are 200 animal lovers with an operating budget of $20 million.
To fulfill our mission, we are building an affordable, national veterinary care system and sharing our methods and philosophy through the Emancipet New School. We identify communities across the country that lack access to affordable veterinary care and then build Emancipet Low-Cost Pet Health Clinics in these low-income and underserved areas. Following this infrastructure, we establish community engagement programs to empower and share information with pet owners who are first-time users of veterinary care. There are nine clinics in the Emancipet system, located throughout Texas and Pennsylvania (Austin, Pflugerville, Killeen, Houston, and Philadelphia). We are growing fast and are proudly supported by the ASPCA, PetSmart Charities, and a unique partnership with Tito’s Handmade Vodka – Vodka for Dog People.
