Democracy NC Seeks New Executive Leadership Team to Steer Growth and Impact
Impact Search Advisors by Nonprofit HR Leads Search

WASHINGTON, D.C., November 4, 2021Democracy NC (DemNC), a North Carolina-based nonpartisan nonprofit organization dedicated to creating a just and equitable government “of, by, and for the people” and to helping North Carolinians achieve meaningful pro-democracy reform through research, organizing and training has launched a search for a new executive leadership team to steer its growth and impact. DemNC has exclusively retained Impact Search Advisors by Nonprofit HR to assist in its recruitment efforts for this dynamic team that will report to its board of directors and will be charged with building on its mission of strengthening democratic structures, building power among disenfranchised communities and inspiring confidence in a transformed political process that works for all. This team, which will be made up of an Executive Director and Deputy Director or Co-Directors, depending upon the experience and skills of the successful candidates, will be responsible for providing strategic leadership, administration and management of DemNC.

“This is a pivotal moment for democracy, advocacy and the evolving philosophies of civic engagement. These dynamic factors are prime for effective, passionate and competent leadership. For these reasons, we have conducted this unprecedented and unique search for an executive team—a team that can foster and maintain an organizational culture that will attract, motivate, develop and retain a diverse, talented staff to blend skillsets, meet objectives and provide efficient program execution,” said Randy Lucas, Board Chairperson.

“Our values are rooted in telling the truth and taking responsibility for our actions, plus promoting respect for people’s fundamental equality and right to self-determination. At our core is a vision to cultivate a culture and systems that put racial and social justice at the center. And we do this because we recognize the impact that race, class, gender, sexual orientation and other cultural factors have on our system of government,” said Lucas.

A strategic mindset and collaborative leadership style is essential for these positions. Fostering effective relationships between the board, coalition partners, all other organization stakeholders and local affiliates plus acting as spokespersons for DemNC—with the media, policy makers, partners and supporters—are core aspects of these roles for which DemNC also encourages teams to apply for together. Also critical to these roles are the ability to think strategically; be hands-on with a commitment to moral leadership and integrity; and be values-driven, deeply rooted in the principles of grassroots organizing and the belief that democracy should be protected and accessible by all.

How to Apply:

For consideration, interested candidates must submit a cover letter, resume and a completed application. Cover letters must address candidate experience and qualifications being sought. Interested parties (individuals or pairs) are encouraged to apply immediately by clicking here.

About Democracy NC

Democracy North Carolina (DemNC) is a nonpartisan organization that uses research, organizing and advocacy to strengthen democratic structures, build power among disenfranchised communities and inspire confidence in a transformed political process that works for all. At DemNC, we work to increase both access to the political process and fair representation within it, especially for historically marginalized communities who have been the targets of voter suppression. We aim to achieve this by strengthening democratic structures and policies; building power and expanding civic participation at the community level; and advancing the belief that true democracy is both possible and worth the work.
